Work will shortly be underway on our outdoor play area. We are having it completely resurfaced with special material. I

t means eating outside , using the trampoline and bikes etc will be a much more pleasurable experience.

All we need now is the good weather– fingers crossed.

    Aiming High For Disabled Children

We have been attending Sports sessions at Salt Ayre run by Lancaster City council as part of a new initiative, the sessions are for 8-16 year olds and further information is available from Louise Taylor on (01524) 582826

    Holidays an Weekends
During holidays and weekends much of the activity planning is done by the children. To ensure activities go smoothly could parents/carers ensure young people are dropped of as close to 11am as possible. If Young people cant be dropped of at this time could parents/carers let staff know and we ask that they are dropped of at 6pm.instead. Thanks!

    David and Thomas enjoyed making

the last of this years snow!

  • Christmas 2010

    Newsletter December 2010

This year’s venue is The Last Drop Inn, Greaves Road, Lancaster Saturday 18th November 7pm – 10.30pm

This venue was chosen by Adam Middleton because it is north of the city centre meaning closer for those south of Lancaster and fully accessible.

We will have a DJ and Shelly will be doing the buffet. Please let us know if you are coming!

    See you there

Work is set to start on the refurbishment of our bathrooms shortly. We were expecting work to start on January 4th but that is looking unlikely. Alex House will need to close during some of the work, we will keep this to a minimum and will be able to provide some outreach support during this time.

This is essential work and we will keep you informed.

    Staff news

suzannahSuzannah has left us and gone to live the student life ( well she is studying at Uni but not many students have 4 children at home).
She will be missed by staff and young people, as will her delicious carrot cake!
She will stay involved with the Alex House Friends Group as her experience in fundraising is a great help.

    Charity News

The Friends Group has had a great year and a full Friends newsletter will come out in the New Year.

    The Headlines

We have been able to buy the Mobile Sensory trolley which has been the main focus of fund raising, largely funded by Lancaster Rotary Club.
Recent donation of £250 from The Foresters will be used to purchase additional equipment for the trolley.

We have been successful in a bid to the BBC Community Wildlife Fund for nearly £9000, this is for a project to create a sensory wildlife area at the front of Alex House and to improve access to the front gardens. A lot of work to do in planning this project and more information will be in the newsletter in January.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the Friends Group during 2010.

Enclosed information on ‘Breath for Life’, a charity close to our hearts, contact details are included in the leaflet if you would like information about the services provided.
